"…The battle over South River Forest is our national crisis in microcosm: environmental anxiety, racial tension and ethnic animosity, the growing gap between rich and poor, concern for public safety, suspicion of the police, the reckoning with our symbols of historical injustice. The issues are complex and do not lend themselves to easy answers…" -Richard Powers

The Fierce Protests in Atlanta Are Eerily Familiar to Me
I believe that there has been almost a sense of apathy towards political and ecological concerns for my generation. I think this came from feeling voiceless. That the vote does nothing. I wish this weren't the case. I do find it disheartening that the "is what it is" attitude has stopped people from acting. When I read things like this NYTimes article it gives me a glimmer of hope that others still care to make moves. I think things are finally shifting towards activism. We need more compassion towards all things, and to see that even in what feels like small insignificant ways.. we can make a difference. Even if it is something as just smiling at customer service to speaking up for conservation of Atlanta's forests. Change ripples.
